Muscat happy with the performance

Melbourne Victory head coach Kevin Muscat stated that he is happy with the performance of his players following their win against Newcastle Jets. He said that it was never an easy game and that his players had to fight hard in order to win the game. The match ended 2-1.

It was Melbourne Victory who started the match the better and took control of the game. They managed to open the score with a great goal from Terry Antonis. However, they will allow the Newcastle Jets to come back into the game when they will fail to clear their lines. Kaine Sheppard equalized after the ball was bouncing around in the Melbourne Victory’s penalty area. Both teams reach half-time with the score 1-1.

After the break, it was more of the same thing with Victory failing to score the important goal that will give them the win. Each time they will be let down by poor decision making in the final third. They will finally manage to score the winning goal in the 84th minute thanks to a great strike from James Troisi.

This win allows them to remain second in the table and in contention for the title. Kevin Muscat was quick however to put the results into context and said that the season is still long. He said that a lot can still happen and that the players need to keep their feet on the ground.

he said that they have only won three points and that they must now focus on the next games. He said that if you want to win the title you have to be consistent and he will be expecting that from his players. He said that there is a good atmosphere in the dressing room at the moment and that he wants this to continue.
